Hooker Heels or Not Hooker Heels?

So, I've been thinking about clothes a lot lately. Especially since my birthday (July 31st- mark your calendars) just passed. I put my birthday money away and have been also saving my little monthly "allowance" I get to spend on whatever I want.

I ordered a few things from the internet that I had been needing/wanting and then the rest is just sitting in an envelope in my secret place. I'm planning a trip to Utah in a few weeks and have been kind of setting it aside so I can do some fall shopping. I can't decide what to spend it on. I know I need a new pair of jeans.. but what kind? Wide leg? Or boot cut or flare?(You will never see me wearing tapered skinny leg jeans) And what brand? And from what store? I just can't decide!

I've also thought about spending some on shoes... Oh how I love shoes. All shoes. Since high school I have owned 3 different pairs of Etnies shoes. They are the perfect white sneaker and they are so comfortable. I have had my current pair coming on 3 years and I wear them ALL the time. They are very worn and I have been looking to replace them. Should I spend some on those?

I don't like the plaid pattern on these, mine would be a plain color. Preferably white with a black E.
Or there are Converse's. I have been eying those for some time too. I like the way they look with jeans and a t-shirt. So... a new pair of Etnies or a never before had new pair of Converse's?
I have also wanted to try flats. I shied away from them for quite some time since they have been out because I can't stand to look stalky/frumpy. I am flat footed and short (5' 3 and 3/4" (there is no way I would leave out that last bit)) and I personally think I'm a little hippy so I just couldn't see flats flattering me at all.

Until I saw them with wide legged jeans. I love that look. So I have been on the lookout for some comfy cute looking flats. I don't own a pair yet, but I want to. Then as I was perusing for a nice pair of Converse shoes I ran across these babies.

Converse flats! I think they are cute-not 100% sure they are what I'm looking for, but it's an option. I don't like uncomfortable shoes or flats that show your toe cleavage. So that rules out quite a few.
I also absolutely love high heels. I haven't been brave enough to wear them with jeans, yet. I also need to buy a pair that are longer so they would actually look good with heels. That could be the length of new jeans I buy in a few weeks. I have also been looking for a new pair of heels. Preferably brown or red or yellow. I have outfits these colors would go with.

Then I saw this post and it made me wonder... do I wear hooker heels?

They can also be referred to as stripper heels. I place probably too much importance on dressing nice and looking put together. I try to dress nice but I LOVE high heels. 95% of the time I am in heels at church. I'm always modest-no short skirts for me. I also try to avoid super tightness. I mean... who wants to see EVERY curve?

So I decided to show everyone what type of heels I like and wear.

I don't own any of these, but if I could I would.

So, what do you think? Hooker heels or no? Or are any of them a little scandalous? Or does anyone have any idea what I should spend my small(ity bity) fortune on? I LOVE to shop. Especially when I'm feeling good about myself and so far (I know many of you say "wwhhy?" and I say, "why not?") I've lost 3 pounds on my diet I started 4 days ago. I'm pretty proud of myself and I'm feeling good. If I keep this up in a few weeks I'll be REALLY ready to shop till I drop(or run out of money).

Again... hooker heels? And what to buy?!

I vote no, no, no to the hooker heels. I'm all for high, stiletto heels. But not in addition to the platform look. I feel like platforms are for fat thirteen year olds. And really, there's nothing slimming about chunky shoes.

I don't think any of those look like stripper shoes, and you know my aversion to crazy shoes.

I don't know what to tell you about the shoe issue. I would buy all of them, hence having 80 pairs of shoes in my closet.

And you have never worn heels with jeans? Interesting.

congrats on the weight loss (not that it looks like you needed to loose any)

i don't wear heels. (i know, the horror!) but i do love a comfy pair of converse.

I love heels too. Funny thing...my husband is the one who got me wearing them (when I first met him I banished everything but flats from my wardrobe because we're the exact same height, and I didn't want to feel like I tower over him), and now I prefer wearing heels over anything else. Obviously my hubs doesn't suffer from the complex I thought he might. :) Heels are great at dressing up a pair of jeans. Just try it, it's not really a hard look to pull off.

As for the Etnies vs. Converse...tough call. Etnies (sk8tr shoes as I like to call them) are always fun, but I agree, the converse with jeans is a cute look too. I usually shy away from the converse because I feel that they make my size 9-10 look like skis. Etnies usually have the exact opposite effect. One day I'll get over being so self conscious and own a pair of the Converse.

I love the heels you picked out. Guess and Jessica Simpson (I know, gasp!) have really great heels.

Good Luck!

converse! I LOVE the chucks...and they really are so great with jeans and a t-shirt. That last pair o' heels is BORDERING on hooker appeal...but, if you wore them with something cute and tailored and really put together they would be great! ( just PROMISE you won't pair them with your courdoroy skirt and a t-shirt..hehe)
Those are all way darling by the way...with the appropriate outfit.

Um whitney. enjoy the high heels why you still have your balance and aren't hugely pregnant. Or when you aren't trying to balance a crazy toddler while running down the aisle after them in sacrament meeting. They kind of lose their appeal after that.

I'm too frumpy to comment. Just as long as they're not Crocs or dirty flip flops I guess!

Uuuummmm....I have issues with heels. Not that I don't like them--I just can't walk in them. My other issue is that I have FLAT FLAT feet and the arches in the really high heels KILLS me! )0: I am all about comfort--especially because I have to chase around 3 kids. I try to wear heel to church but they have to be a chunky heel or a wedge--no stilletos for this girl!

Jessica - haha, now I know what kind of shoes you like.

Kristina - I just feel weird with heels and jeans. And I would really need to find a very very comfortable pair for all the walking I have to do on campus.

Rychelle - I wear comfortable shoes daily. I just love heels when I'm in a dress.

Ash - so glad you can wear heels again! Even with them on I don't reach my 6 foot husband. I'm hoping he will bring some height to our children.

Lisa - haha. I only wear things that match (I hope). I love the boarder hooker ones... I just wish I had a desk job (not really) so I could have an excuse to get a pretty tailored suit to wear them with.

Lena - I know. I have quite a few that I can run in. But I'm not past just taking them off and running barefoot down the isles.

Brittany - you are not frumpy! And I only wear my dirty flip flops with jeans during the summer when I'm not really going anywhere. Am I disowned?

Jillene - I have a pair of wedges on display! It took me a while to learn to walk in them. And I think I'm still learning.

I don't think I'm authorized to voice my opinion on this one, if you read my comments in Ramona's last post you'll see I outed myself as a DI shopper.

I agree about finding comfortable shoes. I don't usually wear heels with jeans when I have a ton of walking around to do.

Oh, and you had better save your money for DSW. You will be in shoe heaven.

In fact, I just bought a super cute pair of Steve Madden Gray, patent leather, round toe pumps from DSW. Definitely not walking around campus shoes, but very cute, nonetheless.

I can't believe you've never owned Chucks! That is a shame I think I've owned almost EVERY color, Dax is only 1 & owns 3 pairs! That's what you need. They look so cute wtih jeans & a tee. Ummh no to the hooker platforms. nordy rack has some good stuff & the TJ Maxx is Orem. True Religion jeans you can find for under 100. I want a pair bad. So I am going to reward myself when I hit my weight loss goal & get a pair, your a jean whore too do you own a pair already? I really want a north face ...I think I shall reward myself with 100 dollar gifts when I hit my goals! good job on the 3 you are so close to your goal!

Ok, I'm going to give you my 2 cents. I say go with heels. Every girl needs several pair of good ones. I have them ranging from 2" pink to very hooker-ish 4" silver. However, I only wear them to work, because I cannot chase my little maniac in heels. Well, I haven't ever tried... so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. Anyway, the other flat things were cute, but there's nothing like a nice pair of heels to go with those fab new jeans...

When we all went down to Killeen Texas for Rox's wedding we went shopping at a mall down there, rows and rows of heels just like those above. I said, Rox, look at all those hooker heels, She said Mom, those are bought by all the tall black women down here. Opps, I felt bad and repented and no longer call them hooker heels, you go ahead and buy some tall black women heels, girl!

I think it all depends on what you find. I sometimes set out looking for one particular item but find something else that I adore!

Aw Man you just happened to touch on my favorite subject. Etnies vs converse... definitely converse. i have a few pairs and find them to be the perfect casual sneaker. As for heels... if you really want to have hot heels, you need some super strappy heels... thick straps. I'll send a link if you care :)

I agree, that chunky heels are not sliming. I am also in love with shoes. I have quite a collection if I say so myself. Go for some stilettos in a crazy cool color. Yellow ones sound cool, I don't have any yellow ones. And heels with jeans are very hot! and the converse flats look really cool as long as there isn't any toe clevage, I am totally with you on that. I like flats that looks like tennis shoes, I think it is super cute. Anyway, I will be quite now...Good luck!

Ok...I'm a shoe retard and am also tall (5' 10 3/4" - I like to leave off the 3/4) and so I rarely wear heels. But I think they look so cute on so many others! I myself am looking for some cute flats to try. Yeah for birthday money and options!

get your jeans at The Buckle!! they have the cutest jeans, they are a little expensive, but worth it, I love miss me and big star, ok and get some heals!!! I love jeans and heels, you will look so cute!! OK, and I'm jealous about your weight loss, I have been on a diet for a week and still weigh the same!!!! what did you do??

I agree with several people's comments...Hooker heels as in chunky is a definate no-no...but the shoes with the sleek toe and heel are so cute. And I love them with jeans. I only really wear them on date nights, but they dress up anything, even a cute T. And as for the shoes in the pictures...I wish I could afford several of them. Only in my dreams as they are Guess. My vote is definitely buy heels and then buy the longer jeans to wear with them.

I always go for boring, old flats. I have balance issues in heels. It's hard to wear them when you have a couple of kids hanging onto your legs.

Whitney R said...

Mary - I'm pretty sure there are heels at the DI.

Kristina - looks like I'm going to be heading to DSW before the meet and greet.... want to meet me there?

Victoria - I am a jean whore but I don't own a pair of True Religions.. YET. I was actually thinking those would be the pair I bought. Where can you get them for 100??? And I think I might get me some chucks...

Misti - I bet you'd be surprised with how well you can actually run in some heels. Jaren has learned the difference. haha, when were late to church he asks, can you walk in those? And usually I can, but every once in a while I can run or speed walk and he goes, "Woah!!"

Aunt Lori - I'm so glad you don't call these/those hooker heels anymore because I actually own a black opened toed sling back style very similar in style to these :) And they are my favorite.

Denise - I agree and that is why I have a general idea of what I want and we'll see where the wind/price blows me

Alexis - I actually would like that link, if you don't mind :)

Amanda - I'm really glad you agree with me on the toe cleavage, your the only one who has touched on that. And I think I'm going to go with converse's.

Lesli - Good for you! Your kids will love that they are tall... I really did make sure my husband was at least 6 feet tall before I let him put a ring on my finger. ;) I had to increase the gene pool somehow!

Wendy - I own several pair from the buckle! I love them, they fit amazing. My favorite pair are Big Stars, but I like the Casey fit because it fits my wider hips and bigger but.

Steph - So do you think some of these are too chunky? The wedge? Or just because they have a bit of a platform?

Christa - that is why I'm wearing them just about EVERY Sunday before I can't anymore. And even then I'll try.

I have a pair of whitre mary jane wedges a lot like the ones in this picture. I love them, and they are super cute with jeans and easy to walk in.....the best part is I get compliments like crazy on them, the are unusual but dressy. After the chunky clogs you saw a few weeks ago you see I need all the help I can get.

Hi, I came over from Mormon Mommies. We have the same birthday! So we're birthday buddies.

You have a cute blog! I love clothes and shopping too. I'm not a big fan of high chunky heels...I like a slender heel because I think it looks more elegant and classy. I think flats are great too, it's all about finding the right pair that feel and look right. They are really comfortable and cute. I hope you find some great stuff!

Bonnie the Boss said...

Go with the hooker heels! They are so cute, and if you wear something non-hookerish, you might get lots of compliments.

Sara Ann said...

Okay,I give, I blog stalk you and I caved after your last post:) I say head right to DSW too. I too live in a small town with no shopping. In Salt Lake, I walked into the store and was amazed at the selection! I had been looking for a cute pair of brown boots for under $100 for months and voila (?) there were like 50 pairs! Heaven. I bought some and was so excited, I showed my husband and he looked right at me and said "Honey, you are 'seriously so blessed'" hee hee, I think TAMN would totally agree.

Whitney R said...

Yes! More lurkers! I'm so excited.

Ramona - I was actually going to buy those exact pair (they were on sale) but they didn't have my size :(

Donna - yes! July 31st, I think, is one of the easiest birthdays to remember (last day of July) but everyone seems to forget. (Like my dad...) Thanks for stopping by! I'll be checking out your blog :)

Bonnie - I love these shoes... If I had... Mmmm, $600 lying around I'd buy all of them.

Sara Ann - way to come out! It's amazing, huh.. shopping in Salt Lake... it's like heaven. I'm so glad you found the shoes you were searching for. As for me... I'll be a huntin come next weekend.
